I was lucky enough to be at this stunning performance of Poulenc’s Concerto for Two Pianos at the BBC Proms, performed by the superstar Dutch brothers Lucas and Arthur Jussen.

The CBSO’s new Music Director Kazuki Yamada put the orchestra through its paces in this piece and the preceding ‘Sinfonietta’, and then after the interval in John Adams’ early work ‘Harmonium’. Their accompaniment to the concerto was beautifully precise but full of layering and delicate touches, letting the pianists shine throughout.

And then they performend an encore – what an encore! Igor Roma’s ‘Strausseinander’ should not be physically possible, such is its technical dexterity, but the brothers played as one, the unrelenting pace and fervour building continually.
